School lunches are a threat to national security  because they make children and young adults too fat to join the military...seriously.

While I agree that childhood obesity is a problem I don't think the solution lies in the school lunch program.  Now requiring schools to remove vending machines, candy drives, and soda from schools completely may help but what about the rest of the day and weekend?

I tend to think that kids diets outside of school play a much larger role in the obesity rate than what they eat at school.

Besides, if the military wants these kids and the kids want to go  but they're just too fat to do it then send them to fat camp before boot camp.  I refuse to believe that the majority of kids who WANT to enlist in the military are so overweight that 6 months of forced dieting and exercise can't fix the problem.

The problem lies w/the inundation of ads for soda, fast and processed foods.  If anything, the companies that are pushing that crap they call food onto our society should be called out as the security threat.

Schools really don't have much of a choice because of the lack of funding.  However, as with pretty much everything in a child's life, it boils down to the parents taking charge and making sure that their kids are eating healthy and are obtaining proper nutritional know-how.

Pretty much every problem in society starts with parents being too lazy to discipline their children.

You have to...get this...RAISE your kids and TEACH them things if you want them to not be dumbasses.

I know that there are parents who do their best and still have bad kids, and that kids make dumb choices irregardless...but parents still have to try.  You can't just dump your kids off at sports/whatever and let the TV babysit them and expect them to learn too much.  Parents have to be in charge and take the time to do their effing jobs.
