I imagine that fedex and ups would love for this rule to affect all airlines as more people would ship their luggage.

For instance, shipping a 15 pound box from my house to NYC would only cost me $17 and I can purchase insurance and such.  Now I would have to mail it off in advance but at least it would be cheaper.

Since most airlines require you to keep carry-ons below 20 pounds this should probably help shipping companies across the country.

There is a good reason that the airlines in this country are failing and crying for federal help...this is BS

This is actually becoming commonplace among airlines.  I think Southwest is the only airline now that doesn't charge.

I thought most airlines allowed one carry on free of charge, obviously they charge for checked baggage.  At least the article made it feel like this was a relatively new thing that not too many airlines are doing.

Dunno, the last time I flew was nearly 15 years ago.

"So far no other U.S. airline charges for carry-on bags" that's straight from the article.

I don''t think the person that wrote that article did their homework on that.  You can go to the individual airlines and see the baggage charges.  This site already has the info tho.

It still must be fairly new, since we flew to London and back on three airlines with carry-on and no charges.

It's only been going on for a couple of years now, so yeah, it's still relatively new.

It may just be me but the chart you posted includes baggage fees for checked bags, i.e. the ones that go in the cargo hold.  This article is just talking about carry on luggage, i.e. the stuff that goes in the overhead bins above the passengers.

Here is a link to American airlines baggage fees from their website where it states one carry on item is free of charge.  Here is a link to Delta that also shows they allow one carry on item free of charge.  I could go on but it's too much effort.

Sorry, that's my bad.  If I'm flying somewhere I don't have a carry-on as the stuff I'm carrying will not fit in the overhead storage compartment.  It's always been checked so I just glossed over the details - hence my perspective!
gig_the_weasel - A nat 20 is bad?  4/9/2010 7:22:19 AM
I never check bags in...just carry on.  Screw the extra charges, I pack light.
darry - Some men just want to watch the world burn  4/9/2010 11:48:12 AM
Yeah I've never checked a bag because it always cost too much and I was afraid it would get crushed and /or lost.
reoiv - If i see van helsing i swear to the lord i will slay him!  4/9/2010 3:00:52 PM
Haha that is amusing cause every time I've ever flown I checked my bag. Never had an issue with it.
gig_the_weasel - A nat 20 is bad?  4/9/2010 4:00:38 PM
Well, even if I did check luggage, I wouldn't now...stupid fees
Shodin - SEND HIM TO THE PORNO WARD!!!  4/9/2010 4:39:56 PM
Yeah, I think I'd pack as light as possible just to be able to carry and just do laundry or something if it's going to be an extended stay.

I'm just gonna quote this gem again
